Almost Plum Nearly is the crafty side of me. I hand crochet various items from plush octopus toys, to hats, scarves and everything in between. I am trying to learn to knit as well, but find myself falling back to my first love: crochet.
Previously, I sold my items at craft shows but due to COVID-19 I am trying to plan ahead for not having in person sales this coming holiday season.
In the coming days I will work on adding a store so you can purchase items from me. Items are hand made so each one is slightly different in some way, not on purpose, but just because it's a human making these items, not a machine. Each item is made in my "down time", i.e. after working in the large vegetable garden, my day job, working the dogs and my parrots.
If you have any questions, special requests for items feel free to send me an email to [email protected]
About My Gift Shop
From the time I was very young, I have always had a love for detail. When learning to write, I would write each letter as small as I possibly could or cut pieces of paper as small as possible. So doing something like crochet that can require very small, detailed work only makes sense.
My Grandmothers and Aunts (on both sides of my family) would crochet items for their own household use, giving as gifts and keeping their family members warm.
I had wanted to learn to crochet for many years and my Grandmother had always offered to teach me. Even though she lived only about an hours’ drive a way, the visits were always spent catching up on life, we just never got around to the lessons. One day, I decided that I had waited far too long, that I needed to learn to crochet before my grandmother passed, even if she could not teach me herself. I purchased a book, some yarn and a crochet hook. I was going at it completely blind, but I was determined. After hours of watching videos, getting tips from a co-worker and many long nights, I was finally able to make a simple little pouch for a bar of soap. I then made goats milk soap infused with lavender to go inside. I was able to give her the small gift on my last visit before her passing.
Today, I continue making fun accessories that add a personalized flare to any wardrobe, from fun Coffee Cup Sleeves with replicas of a favorite furry pet, or proudly showing team spirit, to items like ear warmers, finger-less gloves and scarves that add extra warmth on chilly days while still being fashionable and fun. The items I create are made with Crochet hooks from one grandmother, two great-grandmothers as well as aunts and great-aunts.
Where did my shop name come from? It is an old saying meaning "nearly perfect". My patterns are my own and I work each item until it looks like I think it should.
